Being On Time

When a client asks me what time I will arrive to set up, I will jokingly say, "Early enough that if I have any problems, you will never know." That policy has served my well over the years. I have never failed to start the music on time. On a few occations, I had enough time to fix problems for other people. Here is one...

This event was a 70th Birthday Party, with guests of all ages, food, toasts, and of course... dancing. It was being held in a local hotel, and my client arranged for a dance floor. When I arrived, there was no dance floor. Somehow, somebody canceled the floor a few days prior.

The caterer had floors available and an extra driver to deliver the floor. But all their installers were out already. The floor arrived 30 minutes before the party start time. Having all my gear ready to go, I ended up installing the floor while the driver brought the squares in. The floor was complete with a few minutes to spare.

Ok, yes, my client knew about that problem. But they were impressed and appreciative of the team effort that ultimately saved the party.
